本片讲述了下岗八年的王东林（王东林饰）在一次全国模仿秀栏目中 脱颖而出，从而有了平凡人也想拍电影的念头，于是他聚集了同行孙二宝（孙东饰）张丽（张丽饰）等人开始了追梦之旅，在结识了导演赵梦（丛林饰）美女作家叶楦（何静饰），公司总经理慕容秋（李丹饰）后，他们感觉自己离梦想越来越近，可是造化弄人，每一次都差了那么一步。他们历经各种艰难坎坷，饱受着来自社会和家庭的双重压力，他们还会一如既往地坚持自己的梦想吗？
